Description
St. Croix Health is actively looking for a full-time (0.75 FTE) Lead Registered Nurse to oversee 12-hour night shifts (7 pm - 7:30 am), including every third weekend and holiday.
The Lead Registered Nurse is tasked with managing the operations of the unit, under the direction of the Supervisor, Manager, and/or House Supervisor. This role requires leading the nursing team in a professional manner, adhering to hospital policies to ensure optimal patient care and promote favorable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the condition of patients under their supervision, identify changes in patient status, implement necessary interventions, and ensure continuity of care and patient safety.
- Adhere to all regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with the facility's policies and ethical practices.
- Manage potentially challenging situations involving patients or staff effectively.
- Delegate responsibilities to nursing staff based on their competencies.
- Report any concerns regarding patient care, workplace environment, or staff performance to the Supervisor or Manager promptly.
- Provide education to nursing staff on the use of equipment, safe patient handling techniques, safety protocols, and infection control measures.
- Document nursing notes, track admission and discharge dates, and participate in unit staffing, code rounds, and morbidity and mortality discussions.
- Supervise staff, assign duties during quieter periods, and address patient care needs.
- Act as the primary contact for daily unit communication, including staff assignments and problem resolution in line with established policies.
- Initiate consultations as necessary based on identified issues.
- Lead daily meetings, summarizing discussions and ensuring information is shared with absent team members.
- Identify and address safety concerns for patients and staff, communicating these to the appropriate management personnel.
- Work to alleviate distressing situations for staff, clinicians, and patients, communicating any concerns to the Supervisor, Manager, or House Supervisor for follow-up.
Education & Licensure:
- Associate's degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin.
- BLS certification required upon hire.
- ACLS certification required within six months of hire.
- 1-3 years of experience as an acute care Registered Nurse.
- ICU experience preferred.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
- Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
- Active listening skills, with the ability to understand and engage with others effectively.
- Analytical skills to assess information and determine the best solutions.
- Goal-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to provide personal assistance and emotional support to patients and colleagues.
- Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Extended periods of standing, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
