Operations Manager Job Description

At Casella Waste Systems, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the recycling and post-collection activities within our Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of operations staff to provide leadership and guidance for the recycling and post-collection operations of the MRF.
  • Manage staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management to develop supervisory goals and objectives and effective resolution of safety issues and claims.
  • Implement and execute plans to complement the business unit's strategic and operating plan to maximize customer experience, growth, and durability while optimizing profitability.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of professionalism in the areas of safety, quality, and production to ensure workplace safety and efficiency.
  • Review and measure daily productivity and material quality to increase efficiencies.
  • Manage all systems and procedures to achieve continuous compliance with all permits and certifications.
  • Provide training to employees to ensure adherence to all accident/injury prevention programs and safety regulations.
  • Manage and provide leadership to team members by effectively communicating, establishing clear goals and objectives, coaching team members on achieving goals, and ensuring access to training and development opportunities that assist employees in attaining the necessary skills to achieve team and corporate results.
  • Participate in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and perform any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws regarding employment and employee safety.
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent with 4-6 years of business experience with increasing responsibilities, along with 3-5 years of leadership experience with creating a positive and healthy work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment and consistently demonstrating integrity for the well-being of employees and the company.
  • Outstanding relationship management skills, excellent listening, verbal and written communication, and formal presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other related platforms.
