About the Role

Penn State University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director of Foundation Relations to join our team. As a key member of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, you will play a critical role in engaging alumni and friends as partners in supporting the University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to increase private philanthropy to the University through family and private foundations.
  • Lead a team of six gift officers and one support staff to achieve fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with campus deans, senior administrators, and key faculty to advance the mission of Penn State and maximize gift support from foundation partners.
  • Articulate Penn State's needs, ambitions, and values through excellent informal and formal communications, including written proposals.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of foundation prospects and provide oversight and guidance to team members who manage a broader portfolio of prospects.
  • Establish, track, and achieve key metrics and measures of success for the foundation relations office.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the University and its priorities and values.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher and 10+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in foundation relations, either in an academic or nonprofit setting, is preferred.
  • Possess a creative approach to increasing fundraising success.
  • Show a dedication to and understanding of the skills required to build relationships with diverse communities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
  • Be comfortable interacting with foundation executives and have demonstrated experience managing teams and interdisciplinary projects.
  • Have the ability to travel and represent Penn State.
