Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic Housing Advocate to join our team. As a Housing Advocate, you will play a vital role in working with vulnerable populations, providing quality customer service, and ensuring the well-being of our clients. You will be part of a dynamic team that strives to serve the homeless in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clear and specific information to residents and instruct residents of shelter rules/procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe facility, identifying special needs, and referring needs to supervisor.
  • Answer phones, take messages, and respond to the public.
  • Operate as part of a team that strives to serve the homeless in our community.
  • Assist in resolving conflicts that may arise among residents.
  • Write incident reports where appropriate. Maintain records of resident stays and maintain an accurate shelter log.
  • Provide occasional crisis intervention and emergency interface with community resources such as EMS and law enforcement.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and handle difficult situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in demanding and unpredictable situations.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions.
  • Open to learning how to achieve exceptional boundary-setting skills and demonstrate the ability to set and maintain appropriate boundaries with guests.
  • Culturally responsive and able to work with clients from different racial, socio-economic, and ethnic communities with respect and openness.
  • Ability to contribute to the agency's commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.
  • Willing to accept supervision and direction as well as constructive feedback.
  • Desire and ability to work as part of a diverse and dynamic team.
  • Reliable and dependable.
  • Willing to learn and develop the ability to work from a Trauma-Informed Care framework.
  • Familiarity with the Housing First philosophy.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
