Are you passionate about making a difference in your community and supporting those in need? The Salt Lake City Police Department is seeking a part-time Victim Advocate to join our team.
About the Position:This is a grant-funded position, and employment will not exceed the end date of the grant (June 30, 2025) unless additional funding is secured. The successful candidate will work closely with our Victim Advocacy team to provide support and resources to victims of violent crimes.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide crisis interventions for victims of violent crimes.
- Assess victim needs and make referrals for counseling, housing, shelter, legal assistance, and other services as needed.
- Assist victims in obtaining protective orders and provide transportation to and from court hearings and other services.
- Follow up on assigned cases and review incident reports to determine advocacy needs.
- Attend court proceedings to support victims and provide information and resources.
- Coordinate efforts with other victim services providers and agencies.
- Manage assigned cases and maintain detailed statistical data.
- May be required to act as a trainer and attend national, state, and local conferences regarding victim assistance.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in social or behavioral science and one year of related work experience.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Working knowledge of victimology, trauma-informed responses, judicial processes, and resources for victims of crimes.
- Valid driver's license or driving privilege card, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- Considerable exposure to stressful situations and potentially hostile environments.
- May be required to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
Offers of employment are contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check in accordance with City and department policy and applicable law.
