About the Role:

USAA is seeking a skilled Property Claims Adjuster to join our Catastrophe team. As a Property Claims Adjuster, you will be responsible for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling low to moderate complexity property insurance claims.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively manage assigned claims caseload, comprised of claims with low to moderate complexity damages.
  • Partner with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate claims resolution.
  • Investigate claim damages by conducting research from various sources, including insureds, third parties, and external resources.
  • Identify coverage concerns, review prior loss history, and determine Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals when necessary.
  • Determine coverage through analyzing investigation information involving low to moderate complexity policy terms and contingencies.
  • Determine and negotiate claims settlement, coordinating with management for guidance on assessing settlement amounts outside of authority limits.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process.
  • Apply knowledge of estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools to prepare and manage property insurance claims estimates.
  • Recognize and address jurisdictional challenges, such as applicable legislation and construction considerations.
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe response operations as needed, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • 1 year of customer service, military leadership, construction-related industry/insurance experience, and/or experience handling low complexity property claims.
  • Knowledge of estimating losses using Xactimate or similar tools and platforms.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of claims contracts, as well as application of case law and state laws and regulations.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, including navigating through multiple business applications.
  • May need to travel up to 25% of the year (local & non-local) and/or work catastrophe duty when needed.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently live within a commutable distance to one of our office locations in San Antonio, Phoenix, Colorado Springs, Tampa, or Chesapeake for a hybrid in-office work schedule.
  • 1+ years of residential property adjusting of moderate complexity claims.
  • 1+ years of estimate writing skills using Xactimate, ClaimsX, or virtual estimating.
  • Experience on a Property Catastrophe team handling inside or field claims (i.e., wind, hail, hurricane, flooding).
  • Experience scoping the loss, assessing damages, interpreting policy, and making claim decisions.
  • Knowledge of homeowner property policies and endorsements.
  • Currently hold an active P&C Adjuster license.
  • Prior experience working directly for a standard insurance carrier.
  • Ability to work overtime and extended hours to support CAT claims.
