Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Position patients and select technical factors and equipment to obtain high-quality scans, utilizing immobilization techniques as needed.
  • Transfer and immobilize patients for procedures to ensure optimal exam quality.
  • Operate portable ultrasound equipment for procedures throughout the hospital.
  • Assist physicians with recommendations for optimal studies by suggesting technical factors.
  • Secure patient history for each procedure to provide radiologists with necessary information.
  • Maintain positive guest relations with patients, colleagues, and hospital personnel.
  • Obtain patient history to ensure radiologists have pertinent information for diagnostic tests.
  • Collaborate with radiologists to ensure optimal outcomes for procedures.
  • Comply with hospital safety standards to ensure patient and staff well-being.
  • Maintain annual CPR certification for patient safety.
  • Operate equipment safely, adhering to hospital and department policies.
  • Use Standard Precautions to protect against bodily fluid exposure.
  • Promote patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and maintain a timely flow of patients in room assignments.
  • Prepare ultrasound rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Know and operate Hospital Information Computer Systems as required.
  • Recommend schedule adjustments for optimal patient service.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assemble daily patient schedules.
  • Transport patients as needed to meet customer needs.
  • Follow in-and-out patient identification policy.
  • Stay current with ultrasound skills and new developments in the field.
  • Provide instruction and assistance to students and fellow technologists.
  • Coordinate activities in the department, interacting closely with the Ultrasound Coordinator.
Requirements
  • ARDMS Registry with 2-3 years of experience in ultrasound in a hospital setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Possess high technical knowledge to perform specialized U/S studies with minimal assistance.
  • Able to make diagnostic judgments and present them to radiologists for interpretation.
  • ARDMS Registry.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to take call on a rotational basis.
  • Ability to adjust to flexible hours with minimal notice.
  • Ability to work odd hours, including late hours and on-call shifts.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls in a timely manner.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and view small CRT screens during exams.
  • Ability to perform lifting activities related to patients.
  • Exposure to radiation.
  • Ability to operate portable equipment.
  • Ability to deal with extremely ill patients.
