Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team in Palos Heights, Illinois.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to perform a variety of ultrasound procedures, ensuring optimal patient care and safety. The successful candidate will possess excellent technical skills, strong communication abilities, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Position and immobilize patients for procedures, ensuring optimal image quality.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment, including portable units, to perform procedures throughout the hospital.
  • Assist physicians with technical factors and recommendations for obtaining optimal studies.
  • Document department records, including patient statistics and inventory of supplies.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, assemble daily schedules, and prepare patient folders.
  • Prepare ultrasound rooms, ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Operate hospital computer systems as required.
  • Secure pertinent medical history from patients, providing radiologists with necessary information.
  • Work closely with radiologists to ensure optimal outcomes for each procedure.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with patients, colleagues, and other personnel.
  • Comply with established hospital safety standards, ensuring patient and staff safety.
  • Operate equipment safely, following hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Use Universal Precautions to protect self and others from bodily fluid exposure.
  • Stay up-to-date with current skills and developments in the field of ultrasound.
  • Instruct and assist students or fellow technologists orienting in ultrasound.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and eligible for ARDMS registry.
  • ARDMS Registered or ARDMS registry eligible within 24 months of graduation from an approved sonography program.
  • CPR certification.
Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be able to adjust to flexible hours, work odd hours, and respond to emergency call-backs in minimal time. They will also be able to stand for long periods, view video display screens, and perform lifting activities related to patients.

This position requires the ability to recognize needs and behaviors of all age groups, with evidence of this shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age-specific responses.

Prior experience with various age groups is preferred, and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance is required. Patient handling equipment is expected to be used when available, and unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Addendum:

Report patient safety events and near misses in a timely fashion, adhere to all behavioral and procedural patient safety practices, and promote a culture of safety by identifying threats to patient safety and intervening to prevent patient harm.

Communicate openly and promote teamwork, reporting intimidating behavior and other threats to patient safety promptly.
