About the Role

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team in Vernon Hills, Illinois.

Job Summary

This is a full-time position that will split time between the Interventional Services Suite and the main OR. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing the surgical field, assisting the physician, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare the surgical field in a timely manner and maintain the sterile field and boundaries prior to and during procedure.
  • Comply with departmental policy and procedures regarding specimens, counts, and disposition of contaminated instruments.
  • Assist the physician by sponging, suctioning, retracting, and cutting suture as required and instructed by the physician.
  • Act as preceptor, sharing knowledge in a supportive/educational manner.
  • Maintain on-call availability and assist in emergency situations as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe work environment according to regulatory agency standards.
  • Anticipate the needs of the physician and have all items required readily available on the sterile field.
  • Participate in the surgical Time Out and do not allow the procedure to continue until all team members agree.
Requirements
  • Graduate of surgical technologist program or 2 years of surgical scrub experience.
  • CPR certified.
  • Ability to work with exposures to body fluids, waste, and chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases, and life-threatening diseases.
  • On-call availability (nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Rotating shifts.
