Position Overview:
The Clinical Respiratory Therapist specializing in Ventilation is responsible for delivering exceptional respiratory care to patients utilizing ventilators, ensuring optimal health outcomes. This role involves providing care in various settings, adhering to AdaptHealth's established protocols and guidelines. The focus of care includes preventive, rehabilitative, and palliative approaches.

This position emphasizes patient education and effective communication with the healthcare team, physicians, and other agencies to address patient care needs promptly.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Engages in continuous learning to enhance professional competence, including attending relevant educational sessions and seeking guidance.
  • Applies acquired knowledge to improve skills and competencies.
  • Ensures thorough documentation and charting in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintains accurate patient records by regularly updating all necessary documentation.
  • Reviews treatment plans to confirm their accuracy and relevance.
  • Records patient responses to procedures, including any side effects and significant observations.
  • Facilitates authorization processes for ventilator referrals.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in respiratory equipment and applies this knowledge in clinical settings.
  • Exhibits strong assessment skills and applies clinical expertise during patient interactions.
  • Contributes to discharge planning for complex cases.
  • Conducts clinical assessments as required and communicates findings to physicians and referral sources.
  • Participates in the discharge process, ensuring a seamless transition for patients and caregivers.
  • Provides training to hospital staff and other professionals regarding equipment and clinical issues.
  • Follows up with healthcare providers regarding patient progress and documents all communications accurately.
  • Adheres to safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and infection control measures.
  • Promotes AdaptHealth through program development and educational initiatives.
  • Handles on-call duties as per company policy.
  • Utilizes clinical expertise to evaluate ventilator patients' records post-setup by branch therapists.
  • Ensures that prescriptions and care plans are accurately executed and documented.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of ventilator patients, compliance software, and related technologies.
  • Instructs patients and caregivers on the use of ventilators and associated supplies.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team and other agencies to address patient care concerns.
  • Maintains familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid and third-party payer regulations related to ventilation.
  • Documents patient care activities and interventions electronically, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Takes appropriate actions to ensure timely acknowledgment and follow-up on recommendations and orders.
  • Ensures clarity and accuracy in all verbal and written communications related to the role.
  • Supports data collection for tracking patient outcomes through proper documentation.
  • Assists in preparing clinical documentation for third-party reimbursement when necessary.
  • Educates referral sources on best practices and standards of care.
  • Collaborates proactively with colleagues to resolve issues and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Acts as a resource for best practices and processes within the organization.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of current healthcare products and services offered by AdaptHealth.
  • Upholds patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Completes mandatory compliance training and educational programs as required.
  • Adheres to AdaptHealth's Compliance Program.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned, both during and outside of regular business hours.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with ventilator patients.
  • Proficient in administering and managing ventilator, airway clearance, and oxygen therapies.
  • Capable of conducting clinical assessments.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining medical equipment.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and understand data flow within systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements at various governmental levels.
  • Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions effectively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment, demonstrating accountability and initiative.
Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program.
  • Valid and unrestricted respiratory therapy license in all states serviced by the organization.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in respiratory therapy or related fields with ventilator experience.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, and sitting for extended periods.
  • Capability to perform one-person CPR.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions due to extensive computer use.
  • Potential exposure to unsanitary conditions in certain home environments.
  • Work environment may be subject to stress due to fluctuating activity levels.
  • Possible exposure to high-crime areas within the service community.
  • Extended periods of sitting and exposure to computer screens may be required.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials and infectious pathogens.
  • Ability to manage interactions with upset or distressed patients or customers.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary within the service area.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Access to patient residences is required.
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours when necessary.
