Position Overview:
The RT Ventilator Clinician is a skilled Respiratory Therapist dedicated to delivering exceptional respiratory care to patients utilizing ventilators, ensuring optimal health outcomes. This role involves providing comprehensive respiratory services in various settings, adhering to AdaptHealth's established protocols and guidelines. The care provided will encompass preventive, rehabilitative, and palliative approaches.

This position emphasizes patient education and effective communication with the healthcare team, physicians, and referral sources, ensuring that patient care issues are addressed promptly.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Engages in continuous learning to enhance professional skills and knowledge, including attending relevant educational sessions and seeking clarification when needed.
  • Applies acquired knowledge to improve competencies in respiratory care.
  • Ensures all documentation and charting are completed accurately and in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintains comprehensive and up-to-date patient records by following company protocols.
  • Reviews treatment plans to verify their accuracy and relevance.
  • Documents patient responses to procedures, including tolerance levels and any side effects.
  • Assists in obtaining necessary authorizations for ventilator referrals.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in respiratory equipment and applies this knowledge in clinical settings.
  • Exhibits strong assessment skills and applies clinical expertise during patient evaluations and follow-ups.
  • Contributes to discharge planning for complex cases, ensuring a seamless transition for patients and caregivers.
  • Conducts clinical assessments as required and communicates findings to physicians and referral sources.
  • Facilitates smooth transitions for patients during discharge processes, preparing adequately for home care.
  • Provides in-service training to hospital staff and other professionals regarding respiratory equipment and clinical issues.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with physicians and referral sources regarding patient progress and documents interactions thoroughly.
  • Adheres to safety protocols regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infection control, and hazardous materials.
  • Promotes AdaptHealth through program development, operational support, and educational initiatives.
  • Participates in on-call duties as per company policy.
  • Utilizes clinical expertise to evaluate ventilator patients' records post-setup by branch Respiratory Therapists.
  • Ensures prescriptions and care plans are accurately followed and documented, including delivery tickets and equipment checks.
  • Maintains current knowledge of ventilator patients, compliance software, and related technologies.
  • Demonstrates and instructs on the use of ventilator equipment and supplies, making informed decisions based on compliance data.
  • Collaborates with team members, physicians, and referral sources to ensure timely attention to patient care matters.
  • Stays informed about Medicare/Medicaid and third-party payer guidelines related to ventilation.
  • Documents patient care activities electronically, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Takes appropriate actions to ensure recommendations and orders are acknowledged and followed up promptly.
  • Ensures clarity and timeliness in all verbal and written communications related to the role.
  • Contributes to documentation that supports data collection for tracking outcomes.
  • Assists in creating clinical documentation for third-party reimbursement when necessary.
  • Educates referral sources on best practice standards based on knowledge and experience.
  • Collaborates proactively with colleagues to resolve issues and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Acts as a resource for best practices and processes, providing guidance as needed.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of current HME products and services offered by the organization.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Completes required compliance training and educational programs.
  • Adheres to AdaptHealth's Compliance Program.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned during and outside of regular business hours.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program.
  • Valid and unrestricted RT clinical license in all states serviced by the organization.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist with ventilator experience.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, bend, and sit at a computer for extended periods.
  • Capability to perform one-person CPR.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions of the upper extremities due to extensive computer use.
  • Potential exposure to unsanitary conditions in certain home environments.
  • Work environment may be stressful, with fluctuations in office activities and workload.
  • May encounter high-crime areas within the service community.
  • Subject to prolonged periods of sitting and exposure to computer screens.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, loud noises, extreme temperatures, and infectious pathogens.
  • May interact with upset or irate customers or patients.
  • Must be able to drive and travel as necessary.
  • Physical and mental capacity to conduct clinical assessments.
  • Requires travel throughout the service area.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Must be able to access patients' residences.
  • Willingness to work outside of standard business hours.
  • Physical and mental ability to provide clinical assessments.
