Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled EHS Safety Technician to join our team at South Bay Sand Blasting & Tank Cleaning, Inc. in San Diego, CA. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety and be able to perform a variety of duties, including ship inspections, training, and coordination of hazardous waste removal.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA Maritime Standards and will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A strong background in industrial hygiene and a certification in HAZWOPER and 10-hour OSHA Maritime Safety are required.

This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment with moderate to loud noise levels. The individual must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform ship inspections and identify potential safety hazards
  • Provide training to employees on safety procedures and protocols
  • Coordinate hazardous waste removal and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Conduct industrial hygiene surveys and investigations
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records and reports

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; B.A. or technical/vocational trade school degree preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in EHS or a related field
  • OSHA 5410 Maritime Standards certification
  • HAZWOPER certification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced outdoor environment with moderate to loud noise levels. The individual must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
