Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician to join our team at South Bay Sand Blasting & Tank Cleaning, Inc. in San Diego, CA. The ideal candidate will provide a variety of duties including ship inspections, training, coordination of hazardous waste removal, sample collection, and more.


Responsibilities:
  • Perform various physical duties as assigned, including ship inspections and correcting discrepancies.
  • Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste removal and shipyard hazardous material compliance.
  • Recordkeeping and sample collection.
  • Industrial hygiene surveys and accident investigations.
  • Provide safety data sheets and implement company safety policies.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
  • Time management skills and minimal supervision.
  • Attentive to detail and alert to ensure safety.
  • Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers.
  • Two years of previous experience in EH&S.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA Maritime Standards.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • OSHA 5410 Maritime Standards Certified.
  • Electrical Safety Standards Certificate.
  • Fall Protection Standards Certificate.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

Work is conducted indoors and outdoors, frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Safety equipment required.


The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.

Other Requirements:

All positions require a pre-employment medical test. This employer participates in E-Verify. Must be able to qualify for DBIDS security clearance. Ability to read technical English is a must. U.S. Citizenship is preferred (for some work locations it is required). Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
