Diesel Technician Job at US Foods, Inc.

As a key member of the maintenance team at US Foods, this Diesel Technician role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of diesel equipment to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Responsibilities include conducting preventative maintenance, documenting repair activities, and performing road rescues as required. The technician must possess strong analytical skills, communicate effectively with team members, and adapt to a dynamic work environment, all while adhering to safety and environmental guidelines.

This position is responsible for the maintenance of the Fleet's road equipment, including tractor, trailer, thermo-king, converter dolly, and maintenance vehicles. Ensuring compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations is also a priority. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for documenting, completing, and maintaining current maintenance logs for all repairs and parts used daily. Road rescue services may be required in some cases.

Benefits and Salary:

The salary for this role is estimated at $26.00 per hour. Benefits starting day one include medical, dental, vision, 401K, life insurance, and a $5,000 retention bonus for eligible new hires.

Work Schedule:

The standard work schedule is Sunday through Friday, from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Flexibility and adaptability are essential for this role.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace, and complete all required repairs on diesel equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance according to company standards.
  • Document all repair orders, PM lists, and parts accountability.
  • Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transport equipment as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of assigned repairs by logging into and out of the Shop Fax system.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work environment, adhering to workplace safety rules, regulations, and government guidelines.
  • Manage inventory and maintain proper recordkeeping.
  • Support other maintenance shop personnel as needed.
  • Possess willingness and capacity to assume increased responsibility and certifications.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of commercial diesel mechanic or reefer experience.
  • OR 2 years of diesel mechanic experience with TK or Refrigeration certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations regarding the shop and fleet.
  • Capacity to read and understand technical and service manuals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with coworkers and drivers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability to changing organizational and operational needs.
  • Computer software experience.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including nights, weekends, and overtime when necessary.
