Position Summary: The Finance Director is accountable for overseeing the financial activities of the organization, which encompasses accounting, auditing, taxation, financial management, treasury functions, compliance with grant contracts, budgeting, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost management, and monitoring allowable costs. This role also includes managing Human Resources through an external consultant. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Finance Director is a key member of the Executive Management team responsible for fulfilling the organization's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and detailed analysis of financial statements
  • Design financial reports tailored to management requirements
  • Supervise and lead the Finance Department team
  • Compile federal grant quarterly and year-end reports
  • Monitor activities to update distribution codes for Shared Cost Allocation
  • Conduct periodic testing of the accounting system and maintain updates affecting financial data
  • Execute all year-end reconciliations and prepare financial statements, including SEFA
  • Coordinate year-end audits with external CPA firms
  • Provide Form 990 Tax information to external auditors
  • Oversee grant contract evaluations and negotiations
  • Act as Payroll Administrator, processing bi-weekly payroll and filing Federal and State quarterly returns
  • Manage outsourced HR vendor and coordinate with external Benefits providers on negotiations and selections
  • Supervise the Accounts Payable process to ensure timely payments
  • Oversee the Accounts Receivable process for reimbursement requests
  • Prepare the annual agency budget
  • Analyze budget versus actual reports
  • Engage with program managers monthly regarding performance related to grant contracts and budgetary concerns
  • Ensure adherence to internal control processes and procedures, implementing improvements as necessary
  • Maintain awareness and provide support on agency projects as needed
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and organizational goals
  • Provide leadership through example and knowledge sharing
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, practices, and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial and legal documents; respond to inquiries from managers, clients, and the public.
  • Proficient in mathematical concepts including probability, statistics, fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to various intellectual and practical challenges.
  • Strong personal computer skills, including email, recordkeeping, database management, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks concurrently and meet strict deadlines.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. A CPA license is preferred. Candidates should possess a minimum of ten years of relevant experience in non-profit organizations, with increasing levels of responsibility. Experience should include:

  • Non-Profit Fund Accounting
  • Application of U.S. GAAP and federal regulations related to grants
  • Knowledge of government funding rules and compliance
  • Experience in federal grants management
  • Supervisory experience (3-5 years) in a similar role
  • Familiarity with MIP Fund Accounting systems is a plus
  • Expertise in budgeting and expense management
