About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Mental Health Technician to join our team at Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to children and adolescents with behavioral and mental health concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to promote cognitive, social, physical, and emotional development in patients/residents.
  • Conduct group sessions to facilitate skill acquisition and behavior reduction plans that align with individual patient/resident treatment plan goals.
  • Observe, collect, and accurately record patient/resident behaviors, write detailed progress notes, and communicate with the multidisciplinary treatment team to identify, implement, and attain prescribed treatment goals.
  • Assist with behavior management and crisis intervention by creating learning opportunities that support positive normative culture and utilizing appropriate intervention techniques to re-direct behavior of patients/residents.
  • Utilize established mechanisms to enhance communication among and between staff, including shift reports, team logs, staff meetings, etc.
  • Assist with facility staffing needs by working with various populations to support continuity of care and services.
  • Conduct continuous and on-going rounding to accurately assess and monitor patients/residents per doctor's orders and milieu to proactively prevent or respond to potential crisis situations.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, or related field.
  • In lieu of a degree, 2+ years of experience working directly with children in a therapeutic setting OR QMHP-C certification and no experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, or related field.
  • QMHP-C certification.
  • 4+ years of child and adolescent in-patient (residential or acute) psychiatry.
