Job Summary:

The Patient Service Specialist provides direct, daily operational support to the front office team at Guthrie. This role requires a high level of customer service commitment, with a focus on delivering exceptional patient experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients in a courteous, professional, and timely manner, ensuring a positive first impression.
  • Answers telephones in a friendly and efficient manner, adhering to Guthrie's Telephone Standards.
  • Schedules and maintains patient appointments electronically, verifying patient information and assigning B# / MRN to new patients.
  • Registers patients, reviewing and verifying demographic and insurance information, and scanning current insurance cards into the patient's medical record.
  • Verifies patient eligibility for major insurance carriers, completes insurance forms, pre-certifications, and referrals as needed.
  • Collects copayments, insurance deductibles, deposits, or unpaid balances at the time of registration, adhering to Guthrie's policies and guidelines.
  • Performs daily cash-out and balancing, adhering to the Patient Cash Control Policy.
  • Provides liaison duties between patients, physicians, hospital staff, and organizational departments, ensuring seamless communication and information exchange.
  • Adheres to departmental and organizational policies, attending meetings and huddles as required.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality related to patient health information, adhering to HIPAA compliance.
  • Assists with and completes other projects or duties as assigned, participating in quality initiatives established by the organization.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma/GED required; Medical Office Assistant school preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a customer service related field, with medical office experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks simultaneously, with a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Compensation:

The pay range for this position is $16.00-$22.37 per hour.
