Position Summary: We are in search of a Senior Director of Business Development to play a crucial role within our Business Development team. This position will involve close collaboration with various cross-functional partners to advance initiatives aligned with our corporate goals. Reporting directly to the Chief Business Officer, the successful candidate will engage with other management team members on a variety of corporate functions, including in-licensing, out-licensing, competitive analysis, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement Business Development strategies and partnership initiatives, including sourcing, structuring, and negotiating terms for in-licensing and out-licensing agreements.
  • Oversee the execution of diverse business development transactions and collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Work alongside Business Development, Finance, and Legal teams to execute transactions, conduct market evaluations, and lead due diligence efforts.
  • Manage competitive intelligence to track and communicate transaction activities within the biotech sector.
  • Collaborate with Research and Development teams to shape external innovation strategies and support Business Development initiatives for our technology platforms.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through the diligence and contract execution phases.
  • Create compelling presentations for partnership and out-licensing discussions.
  • Partner with Research and Development to identify potential collaborators and in-licensing opportunities for our product pipeline.
  • Establish effective internal communication channels regarding Business Development activities and educate the organization on relevant concepts.
  • Collaborate with Finance to develop comprehensive financial models for deals.
  • Represent Caribou at industry meetings with a commitment to business integrity and adherence to company policies.
  • Travel may be required up to 15% of the time.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in life sciences (BA, BSc) is preferred; advanced degrees (PhD, MBA) or equivalent business/financial experience are highly regarded.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 8 years in the pharmaceutical sector and 5 years in Business Development.
  • Proven track record of successfully closing deals and managing collaborations.
  • Strong collaborative skills for engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in negotiating intellectual property licenses from both licensor and licensee perspectives.
  • Solid understanding of the drug development process, particularly in gene and cell therapy.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and facilitate decision-making processes.
  • Exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high-quality standards.
