Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant II to join our team at Mount Sinai Health System. As a Medical Assistant II, you will provide clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, and perform patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical support to physicians and surgeons, including performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow, and accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms.
  • Assist patients with walking, transferring, and dressing, and collect and process specimens and point of care testing.
  • Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and families.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities, including sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions as needed.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.
  • Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable.
  • Provide set-up of examination rooms and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.
  • Maintain logging systems as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, or others as needed.
  • Check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies and dispose appropriately as per institution policy.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and in compliance with legal requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Assist in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).
  • Schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients, preparing charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms as necessary.
  • Perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
  • Schedule appointments and registration for patients, and update patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources.
  • Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
  • Provide training and mentoring to Level I MA staff.
  • Direct and assign MA schedules and work flow to meet the needs of the practice and applicable to patient volumes.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of clinical office support to meet the needs of each physician.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Certification: Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
  • BCLS certification - Required Issuing Authority: AHA.
