Senior Associate Architect or Engineer, Capital Projects – University of Tennessee

The University of Tennessee encompasses multiple campuses and institutes, including a significant presence in Memphis, TN. The institution is dedicated to advancing education, research, and community outreach across the state.

The role of Senior Associate Architect or Engineer is pivotal in managing projects that support the Health Science Center and various agricultural institutes within the University. This position entails overseeing projects from the initial programming phase through to construction completion. The selected individual will collaborate with division management and university leaders to facilitate the planning and execution of the Capital Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the assessment and selection process for Architects/Engineers and Contractors involved in Capital Projects.
  • Provide ongoing evaluations and constructive feedback throughout the design and construction phases.
  • Coordinate design services for Capital Projects, including reviewing designs at each stage, recommending payments for design services, and managing the bidding process for construction.
  • Oversee construction activities, including reviewing contractor submissions, conducting field inspections, and managing progress meetings.
  • Facilitate substantial and final completion inspections, ensuring the delivery of project records and operational manuals.
  • Assist in gathering feedback from building occupants through a Post-Occupancy Evaluation process.
  • Support the Department of Capital Projects in reviewing submissions for all capital initiatives.
  • Aid in project site selection and the development of facility programs for new and renovation projects.
  • Contribute to Master Planning efforts and updates for campus facilities.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree and professional registration as a licensed architect or engineer are required.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a registered design professional, preferably within a design firm.
  • Strong technical skills to identify and resolve potential issues effectively.
  • Proven experience collaborating with external design professionals and contractors.
  • Background in design, project management, and construction management.
  • Ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects and coordinate among various teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with officials and professionals in architecture and engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in facilities related to higher education is preferred.
