We are seeking a highly skilled NPI Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic Operations team within the Laser Systems and Measurement (LSM) Group. This pivotal role involves contributing to the design and production of advanced solid-state lasers and measurement systems that cater to various scientific, medical, and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and facilitate the preparation and execution of new product introductions, ensuring alignment with product design improvements aimed at enhancing quality and reducing costs.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers to manage the transition of new products from the design phase to full-scale production.
  • Identify and resolve product and manufacturing challenges, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Engage with Product Line Managers to lead the operational release of limited design product variants.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress through structured presentations that highlight key metrics, schedules, and action items.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, establish time standards, and recommend tooling and process requirements for new product lines.
  • Review and optimize Bill of Materials (BOM) structures, coordinating with planners, buyers, and production management to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
  • Propose and justify capital and operational expenditures essential for new production capabilities, assisting in forecasting future requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Optics, Physics, or a related engineering field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in Optoelectronics, Lasers, Optics, or other Photonic technologies.
  • At least 6 years of experience in Product, Manufacturing, or NPI Engineering.
  • Hands-on expertise in optical alignment, opto-mechanical assembly, and testing, including proficiency with optical and electrical photonics testing equipment.
  • Experience managing product transitions in both high-mix and high-volume production settings.
  • Proven leadership in cross-functional NPI teams, demonstrating strong project management capabilities using phase-gate product development methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of optical, mechanical, and electronic engineering principles, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and define lean workflows.
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting, utilizing data gathering tools to create informative reports.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities coupled with excellent communication skills.
  • Effective skills in developing and documenting procedures.
  • Experience in supporting both new and existing suppliers.
  • Self-motivated with a track record of managing multiple projects with accountability.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability across various manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to implement statistical process control methods.
  • Familiarity with lean tools, 5S methodologies, and production capacity planning is advantageous.
  • Understanding of MRP planning systems and BOM structures; experience with Oracle is a plus.
