We are seeking a Lead NPI Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic Operations team at II-VI Incorporated. This pivotal role is essential for the success of our Laser Systems and Measurement (LSM) Group. Our team is dedicated to designing and producing precision solid-state lasers and advanced measurement systems for various scientific and industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and facilitate the preparation and execution of new product introductions, ensuring product quality and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with design engineers to transition new products from the design phase to full-scale production.
- Identify and resolve product and manufacturing challenges, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Engage with Product Line Managers to manage the release of product variants in manufacturing.
- Communicate project progress through regular presentations, highlighting key metrics, schedules, and action items.
- Estimate manufacturing costs, establish time standards, and recommend tooling and process requirements for new product lines.
- Review and optimize Bill of Materials (BOM) structures, coordinating with planners and production management.
- Propose and justify capital and operational expenditures needed for new production capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Optics, Physics, or a related engineering field.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in Optoelectronics, Lasers, Optics, or Photonic technologies.
- At least 6 years of experience in Product, Manufacturing, or NPI Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with optical alignment and opto-mechanical assembly, including the use of relevant testing equipment.
- Experience in transitioning products into both high-mix and high-volume production environments.
- Proven leadership in cross-functional NPI teams, with strong project management skills utilizing phase-gate development processes.
- Solid understanding of optical, mechanical, and electronic engineering principles.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to utilize data for reporting and decision-making.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.
- Experience in developing effective procedures and documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with a strong sense of accountability.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturability across various processes.
- Knowledge of statistical process control methods and lean manufacturing principles.
- Understanding of MRP planning systems and BOM structures.
