About the Role:

The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Specialist plays a critical role in collaborating with VCU Health leaders to design and implement data-driven initiatives that aim for clinical excellence. This position serves as a coach, facilitator, or advisor as needed, guiding the organization through established performance improvement techniques. Key responsibilities include leading change management, overseeing improvement projects, and providing educational support on safety and quality improvement methodologies. The role also involves mentoring staff in these methodologies and tools.

  • Lead the integration of safety and quality into the organization to achieve care targets
  • Implement processes for engagement and teamwork
  • Utilize proven methods for improvement initiatives
  • Harness data analytics for decision-making and improvement initiatives
  • Cultivate a safe healthcare environment by enhancing safe practices and improving processes
  • Evaluate and enhance healthcare processes and care transitions
  • Stay updated on industry knowledge and trends
  • Ensure commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies

Requirements:

Education:

A Master's Degree in a healthcare field, Quality Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

Licensure/Certification:

A current license in the Commonwealth of Virginia if applicable, Project Management Professional or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality or Patient Safety is required.

Experience:

A minimum of four years' experience in Patient Safety/Quality & Process Improvement/Project Management in a healthcare setting is required.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in an academic medical center environment is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

Previous experience with statistical process control tools, group facilitation, and data collection design is required.

Working Conditions:

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. A general office environment with occasional off-site travel is required.
