Position Purpose

The role involves performing administrative, clerical, and reception duties, including phlebotomy and specimen processing for the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities


- Serve as the receptionist for the lab, welcoming patients and visitors courteously and directing them appropriately.
- Verify patient identification, locate lab orders in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and ensure proper documentation is attached.
- Address patient inquiries or direct them to the relevant personnel.
- Confirm laboratory orders, generate labels, and release orders once specimens are collected.
- Instruct patients on specimen collection techniques and dietary requirements.
- Enter external provider orders into the EHR and process them accordingly.
- Handle incoming calls professionally, providing necessary information and transferring inquiries as needed.
- Open and close the lab reception and office daily, adhering to established procedures.

- Execute administrative and clerical tasks for the lab, including:
- Timely reporting of discrepancies and incidents to supervisors.
- Daily collection and distribution of departmental mail.
- Accurate filing of reports and requisitions.
- Verification of laboratory testing information for in-house and reference labs.
- Communication with reference labs to obtain test information and ensure accuracy.
- Audit and reconcile billing reports and insurance requests as necessary.
- Process physician orders for laboratory tests.

- Collect patient specimens (perform phlebotomy) and prepare them for testing.
- Participate in additional activities as assigned.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and exceptional customer service in all work aspects.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Required Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED.
- Five years of experience in clerical functions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a professional demeanor.
- High accuracy in grammar and punctuation.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to learn tasks quickly with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of protected health information.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Proven customer service skills and ability to work with diverse communities in a non-judgmental manner.

Relevant education and experience may be considered as appropriate substitutes.

Preferred Qualifications

- Certified Phlebotomy Technician with at least one year of experience.
- Over three years of clerical experience.
- Experience in a healthcare/medical clinic front office.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records and billing software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience in collecting insurance information.

Salary Range

$42,271.20 per year

Work Schedule
