Job Overview

Position Summary:

The role involves overseeing the technical aspects of design and drafting within the engineering team. This includes the formulation, application, and adherence to company standards and protocols, as well as the management of engineering personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review man-hour budgets and forecasts.
  • Create necessary scope documents.
  • Assess space, manpower, and equipment needs.
  • Recruit and select engineering staff.
  • Establish and evaluate project schedules.
  • Supervise engineering tasks and activities.
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members.
  • Ensure adherence to technical standards.
  • Implement engineering standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Conduct quality reviews of engineering outputs.
  • Provide training and conduct interviews for new personnel.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as required.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited institution, accompanied by a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in the refinery, petrochemical, or chemical sectors, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that enables the successful execution of the essential job functions.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Driver's License in accordance with state regulations.
  • Professional Engineer License is preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Desire to mentor junior engineers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software applications.
  • Experienced with discipline-specific software tools (e.g., ETAP, STAAD, CAESAR).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with regulatory codes and standards in the engineering discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of design principles within the engineering field.
  • Understanding of key concepts in Civil, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to traverse industrial plant and construction sites, potentially covering distances of up to one mile.
  • Capability to work in protective gear that may increase body temperature for short durations.
  • Proficient in using multi-level stair towers and ladders without assistance.
  • Able to hear safety alarms and signals while using hearing protection.
  • Capacity to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and communicate effectively.
  • Visual acuity to distinguish colors and perform tasks requiring detailed vision.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Regularly lift and carry up to 15 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

Professional License: Texas P.E. License is required (Licenses from LA, OK, AR, and MS are advantageous).

Software Proficiency:

  • Mathcad, MS Office Suite.
  • Compress, Caesar, and other relevant software.
