Job Overview:
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering therapeutic radiation in accordance with the directives provided by the Radiation Oncologist. This role requires a meticulous approach to ensure the accuracy of dosage and the elimination of errors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify the prescription for accuracy and safety.
- Capture and interpret port images to confirm precision; ensure images are reviewed and approved by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Prepare the treatment environment and equipment, including immobilization devices and beam shaping parameters.
- Communicate procedures effectively and prepare patients for treatment.
- Monitor and report any changes in the patient's condition to the Radiation Oncologist or radiation therapy nurse.
- Document treatments administered in patient records and verification systems.
- Conduct daily quality assurance and safety checks as mandated by regulations.
- Maintain equipment in optimal working condition and report any issues to the chief technologist or medical physicist.
- Ensure the treatment area is clean and organized, replenishing supplies as necessary.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Experience in accurately setting up patients for treatment.
- Ability to administer radiation treatments and maintain precise daily treatment records.
- Competence in performing basic dose calculations using software.
- Capability to identify and rectify any discrepancies in the Radiation Oncologist's prescription.
- Conduct safety checks on treatment machines and record data daily.
- Verify and localize treatment areas using radiographic methods.
- Understand the functionality of equipment and utilize it effectively.
- Maintain communication with patients throughout the treatment process.
- Report any unusual patient reactions to the appropriate personnel.
- Instruct and evaluate student radiation therapists as needed.
Education:
Graduate of an AMA approved radiation therapy program.
Certifications & Licenses:
ARRT certification required.
