Role Summary:

LA Voice is in search of a full-time Community Engagement Lead to cultivate and enhance spiritually-centered grassroots leadership and influence within the community. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in community organizing, preferably in a leadership or management capacity, alongside excellent communication and time management skills. Emotional intelligence, fluency in diverse ethnic and religious communities, and a passion for fostering leadership development are essential. A commitment to addressing racism as a fundamental aspect of our collective future is crucial. This role presents an exciting opportunity to join a diverse and dynamic team committed to enacting positive systemic change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership alongside fellow organizers and the Director of Organizing, collaboratively developing and executing long-term strategies to build county-wide power for racial and economic justice.
  • Engage in intentional leadership through one-on-one conversations, identifying interests and values, and inviting grassroots members into impactful roles.
  • Recruit, nurture, and empower grassroots leaders to advocate for social change through effective organization and team development.
  • Establish meaningful relationships with clergy and spiritual leaders, addressing congregational needs and fostering strategic leadership.
  • Oversee and mentor at least one Community Organizer, supporting their professional growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Build and maintain relationships with congregational leaders across a broad area.
  • Organize local committees within member congregations.
  • Recruit new congregations to join LA Voice.
  • Design and facilitate training sessions on community organizing skills, including leadership development, mobilization, and power analysis.
  • Empower others to teach these skills to fellow volunteers.
  • Guide grassroots leaders in collective campaign efforts, including strategic goal setting and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and coalitions to achieve shared objectives.
  • Lead grassroots members in developing long-term agendas and executing campaigns.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in community organizing.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and adaptable.
  • Proven group leadership skills, with a history of successfully guiding teams toward common goals.
  • Experience working with diverse faith communities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to personal growth.
  • Demonstrated success in leading organizing campaigns that yield tangible community benefits.
  • A commitment to fostering inclusivity across various differences, including race and faith.
  • A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of organizing within the local community.
  • Over six years of impactful community organizing experience.
  • Fluency in Spanish or another relevant language.
  • Experience with integrated voter engagement initiatives.
  • Background in organizing with marginalized populations.
  • Relevant educational qualifications.
