About the Role:

The Oregon DEQ is currently seeking multiple candidates for the position of Automotive Emissions Compliance Specialist. This recruitment will be utilized to fill full-time permanent roles. Qualified candidates may also be considered for future vacancies, both full-time and part-time.

Key Responsibilities:

This role goes beyond typical customer service positions. Our Automotive Emissions Compliance Specialists are trained to utilize advanced technology to efficiently test over 500,000 vehicles annually to ensure compliance with State and Federal emissions standards. Responsibilities include:

  • Guiding vehicle operators through testing procedures.
  • Accurately entering emissions test data and verifying emission control details.
  • Connecting testing equipment to vehicle systems and conducting assessments.
  • Communicating test outcomes to vehicle owners, including guidance on resolving failed tests.
  • Managing high volumes of paperwork and financial transactions with precision.
  • Performing office tasks as assigned, including data entry and preparing financial deposits.
  • Flexibly working at various station locations as needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in customer service, with at least one year involving the explanation of rules, regulations, and policies.

  • High level of professional customer service skills, especially with diverse and challenging clientele.
  • Effective communication skills in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Capability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships with diverse groups.

Working Conditions:

This position involves physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and lifting approximately 25 pounds. Work may occur in environments with vehicle exhaust, noise, and varying weather conditions. A driver's license is preferred, as flexibility in working at different locations may be required.
