Position Summary: We are in search of a Senior Director of Business Development to become a vital member of our Business Development team. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to drive initiatives that align with our corporate goals. Reporting directly to the Chief Business Officer, the successful candidate will engage with other management team members on a variety of corporate activities, including in-licensing, out-licensing, competitive analysis, and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement Business Development and partnership strategies, including sourcing, developing, structuring, and negotiating business and financial terms for in-licensing and out-licensing agreements.
- Oversee the execution of diverse business development transactions and collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute the BD strategic plan.
- Work alongside the Business Development, Finance, and Legal teams to facilitate business transactions, conduct market evaluations, and lead due diligence and contracting processes.
- Direct competitive intelligence efforts to monitor and communicate transaction activities within the biotech sector, particularly in relation to Caribou's domain.
- Collaborate with Research and Development teams to shape external innovation strategies and develop Business Development approaches for the company's technology platforms and programs.
- Lead cross-functional teams through the diligence and contract execution phases.
- Create impactful presentations for partnership and out-licensing initiatives.
- Partner with Research and Development to identify potential collaborators and in-licensing opportunities for our research and product portfolio.
- Establish effective internal communication channels for Business Development activities and educate the organization on business development concepts and considerations.
- Collaborate with Finance to develop insightful financial deal models.
- Represent Caribou at industry conferences and scientific meetings, maintaining a high level of business integrity while adhering to all company policies and ethical standards.
- Travel may be required up to 15% of the time.
Qualifications:
- BA, BSc, or equivalent; a degree in life sciences is preferred; advanced degrees such as a PhD or MBA are strongly favored.
- A minimum of 10 years of business experience, with at least 8 years in the pharmaceutical sector and 5 years in Business Development, showcasing extensive knowledge and experience in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
- Proven ability to successfully close deals and a strong track record of achievement.
- Collaborative approach with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in negotiating intellectual property licenses as both licensor and licensee.
- Demonstrated expertise in structuring collaborations and managing alliances.
- Solid understanding of the drug development process, with a preference for experience in gene and cell therapy development.
- Thorough knowledge of industry trends and the competitive landscape.
- Ability to influence stakeholders towards common objectives and facilitate decision-making processes.
- Experience in external-facing roles.
- Proactive and confident demeanor, with the ability to take initiative.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of intellectual property, patents, and contract law.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range: $225,000 to $245,000 - This range reflects the current low and high end of the company's pay scale for this position, with actual compensation varying based on factors such as location, skills, experience, and performance.
