POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse in Critical Care is responsible for independently planning, executing, and assessing nursing care in various patient scenarios, adhering to established standards, policies, and procedures. This role involves delivering direct patient care, fulfilling educational and leadership roles, and engaging in collaborative decision-making and quality improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Formulating care plans that outline strategies to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Executing nursing interventions and medical plans of care as necessary.
  • Coordinating comprehensive care delivery.
  • Implementing patient education to enhance health and safety.
  • Assessing progress towards established outcomes.
  • Upholding ethical nursing practices.
  • Maintaining knowledge and skills that reflect contemporary nursing practices.
  • Integrating evidence-based research into clinical practice.
  • Contributing to quality nursing practices and shared decision-making by supporting council decisions and participating actively.
  • Communicating effectively across all aspects of nursing practice.
  • Exhibiting leadership within the professional practice environment.
  • Collaborating with patients, families, and the inter-professional team in nursing care delivery.
  • Utilizing appropriate resources to ensure safe, effective, and cost-efficient nursing services.
  • Practicing in a manner that promotes environmental safety and health.
  • Being accountable for fostering and participating in the shared decision-making model of NCH Healthcare System.
  • Completing assessments and integrating findings with electronic medical records to support patient safety and optimal outcomes.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in monitoring skills, including cardiac rhythm interpretation and hemodynamic measurements.
  • Administering critical care medications and infusions safely and effectively.
  • Ensuring competency in the use of critical care equipment.
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary rounds to enhance patient care.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

For candidates with Critical Care experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a critical care setting.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Florida.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited organization.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification from an accredited organization.

For new graduate nurses:

  • New graduates will be considered for the fellowship program.
  • BSN is preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Florida.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • ALS certification will be obtained during the fellowship program.
  • A commitment to a 2-year employment agreement in Critical Care post-training is required.

Intermediate computer skills are necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
