POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse in Critical Care is responsible for independently planning, executing, and assessing nursing care in various patient care scenarios, adhering to established standards and protocols. This role involves delivering direct nursing care, taking on educational and leadership roles, and engaging in collaborative decision-making and quality improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

· Formulating care plans that outline strategies to achieve desired patient outcomes.

· Executing nursing interventions and medical care plans as necessary.

· Coordinating the delivery of care among healthcare team members.

· Providing patient education to promote health and safety.

· Assessing progress towards established outcomes.

· Upholding ethical standards in nursing practice.

· Maintaining current knowledge and skills reflective of contemporary nursing practices.

· Integrating evidence-based research into clinical practice.

· Contributing to the enhancement of nursing practices and shared decision-making by supporting council initiatives and participating actively.

· Communicating effectively across all areas of nursing practice.

· Demonstrating leadership within the professional environment.

· Collaborating with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team in nursing practice.

· Utilizing appropriate resources to deliver safe, effective, and financially responsible nursing services.

· Ensuring practices are environmentally safe and promote health.

· Being accountable for engaging in and understanding the shared decision-making model of NCH Healthcare System.

· Completing comprehensive assessments and integrating findings with electronic medical records to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

· Demonstrating proficiency in monitoring skills, including:

o Cardiac rhythm interpretation.

o Pulse oximetry.

o Invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques.

o Hemodynamic measurement and interpretation.

· Understanding the indications for critical care medications and infusions, administering and monitoring their effectiveness safely.

· Demonstrating safe operation and troubleshooting of critical care equipment.

· Maintaining competencies specific to critical care on an annual basis.

· Participating in multidisciplinary rounds.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

For candidates with Critical Care experience:

· Minimum of 1 year of experience in a critical care setting.

· Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.

· Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred.

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

· Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification is required.

For new graduate nurses entering a fellowship program:

· New graduates will be considered for the program.

· BSN is preferred.

· Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.

· BLS certification is required; ALS certification will be obtained during the program.

· A Fellowship agreement must be signed, committing to a 2-year employment in Critical Care post-training.

· Proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows is required.
