Position Overview

Role Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) Department at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is in search of a dedicated full-time academic instructor. This role primarily involves teaching and evaluating a range of professional and clinical subjects within both the didactic and clinical components of the curriculum.

About Us

Since its establishment in 1991, the Physician Assistant (PA) Program at Rosalind Franklin University has proudly graduated over 1,500 students. Our faculty is dedicated to providing an engaging educational experience through innovative classroom activities, collaborative learning, quality clinical rotations, and advanced simulation techniques. The interprofessional approach of the PA Program, as well as throughout the university, equips our students to function effectively as part of healthcare teams across various medical specialties and environments.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties of the Academic Instructor encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Engagement in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Instruction during both didactic and clinical phases of the program
  • Providing academic and professional guidance to students
  • Participation in the admissions process
  • Involvement in faculty development initiatives
  • Serving on committees at the departmental, college, and university levels
  • Contributing to the ARC-PA accreditation process
  • Engaging in ongoing scholarly activities (e.g., presentations, publications, grants)
  • Other assigned responsibilities

All full-time faculty members at RFUMS are expected to participate in activities central to their role, which may include teaching, scholarly work, and service.

Teaching Responsibilities

Teaching duties may include:

  • Direct instruction
  • Curriculum oversight
  • Assessment of student performance
  • Advising and mentoring students

Scholarly Activities

Scholarly endeavors may include:

  • Original research
  • Grant writing
  • Mentoring student research projects

Service Contributions

Service activities may involve internal and external contributions through:

  • Committee participation
  • Professional contributions
  • Direct patient care

Scholarly and clinical activities are determined at the departmental level and are primarily influenced by the faculty track.

Employment Conditions

  • Successful completion of a background check is required
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination with booster or an approved exemption is necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • A minimum of three years of direct patient care experience in healthcare

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current NCCPA certification and Illinois Physician Assistant license (or eligibility)
  • Experience in health profession graduate education, including curriculum development and assessment
  • Education beyond the Master's degree
  • Familiarity with the ARC-PA accreditation process
