Role Overview: Merchandise Strategist

The Merchandise Strategist plays a crucial role in executing strategic initiatives within a rapidly growing division, ensuring the precision and consistency of all plans, revisions, and projects. This position involves thorough analysis of dynamic, multi-faceted plans, including sales trends, gross margin, inventory, and open-to-buy (OTB) levels. The strategist collaborates with Buying and Location Planning teams, as well as Planning Management, to identify business opportunities and risks related to sales and margin, providing informed recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop seasonal business strategies in partnership with the Buying team, utilizing historical data to forecast trends.

* Create pre-season chain plans at the class level and manage in-season forecasting of chain plans.

* Monitor monthly performance against sales, inventory, and margin objectives.

* Oversee weekly OTB, identifying opportunities as necessary.

* Recognize early warning signs and recommend actions to enhance profitable sales and margin. Conduct independent analyses to pinpoint opportunities.

* Foster strong collaboration and trust among cross-functional partners to achieve desired outcomes.

* Present risks and opportunities to Planning Management and Senior Merchants.

Qualifications for Success:

* Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with planning systems, particularly Arthur Planning, is highly desirable.

* Strong analytical, conceptual, and retail math skills are essential for driving business success.

* A Bachelor's Degree is required, along with a minimum of three years of experience in retail merchandise planning and at least two years in sales and inventory planning, sales forecasting, and OTB management.
