Position: Communications Security Technician

We are seeking skilled professionals to join our Field Installation and Service Technician team. Key responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of security system components, as well as fire and security equipment, including Access Control Systems. Ideal candidates will have 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in electrical, technical, or security controls.

As a Communications Security Technician, you will oversee customer installations and the upkeep of electronic and communication equipment in various settings. Your role will also involve the installation and maintenance of systems such as two-way radios, fire alarms, CCTV, and surveillance technology. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a customer-oriented mindset, a willingness to learn, and reliability. Direct interaction with clients necessitates a professional demeanor and appearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and manage coax, fiber, and CAT 5/6 cables for communication and low-voltage systems, including necessary terminations and testing.
  • Construct equipment closets, including racking and installing ladder racks or trays for cable management.
  • Engage with clients on-site to devise installation strategies and coordinate with staff for access to installation locations.
  • Contribute to the commissioning and testing phases of installation projects.
  • Prepare written reports and communicate effectively with clients, third-party vendors, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Interpret blueprints and installation plans for communication and electrical systems, utilizing drawings and schematics.
  • Diagnose issues through diagnostic testing to ascertain whether problems stem from wiring, components, or require system replacement.
  • Assist in estimating customer needs for tools and materials required for installations or repairs, including time estimates for completion.
  • Maintain and update customer records, repair logs, inventory, and similar documentation using basic computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience with CAT 5/6 cable installation and related support devices, including coaxial cable termination.
  • Preferred experience in communication systems, two-way radios, CCTV, RF signal distribution, and low-voltage systems.
  • Knowledge of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) is a plus.
  • Proficient in using basic tools and testing equipment, including hand tools and multi-meters.
  • Ability to accommodate an on-call schedule.
  • Physical capability to lift 50 lbs., navigate heavy equipment, and work at heights, including extended periods standing and occasionally outdoors in varying temperatures.
  • Understanding of basic wiring diagrams and DC circuit theory is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently, manage schedules, and meet deadlines while delivering quality solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, particularly with MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • OSHA Safety Training and Low Voltage certifications are beneficial.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Successful candidates will undergo drug screenings and background checks as part of the hiring process.
