Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Behavior Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering in-home and in-clinic support to children with unique needs, under the guidance of the agency's Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Director. This position involves implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies, which encompass behavior management, discrete trial training, pivotal response training, social skills development, and parent education.

The Behavior Support Specialist is expected to adhere to the tailored services outlined by the Clinical Director, ensuring accurate data collection throughout each session. Regular assessments for mastery and the introduction of new programs will be communicated to the Clinical Supervisor for each individual case. Participation in family and team meetings, as directed by the Clinical Director, is also a key responsibility. Attendance at quarterly staff meetings and professional development sessions is required. Additionally, any incidents or communications from parents must be reported to the Clinical Supervisors and/or Clinical Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide direct support to children with special needs through ABA techniques.
  2. Collect and document data accurately during sessions.
  3. Communicate effectively with families and team members.
  4. Attend and contribute to team meetings and training sessions.
  5. Implement behavior modification strategies under supervision.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess an Associate's Degree or higher, preferably in Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, or a related field. Ideal candidates are self-driven, responsible, and articulate, with the ability to work independently while maintaining a professional demeanor. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management are essential.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to engage with culturally and linguistically diverse families, including those from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Comfort in working within homes of families with limited resources is necessary, as is the ability to interact respectfully with individuals who may be uncooperative.

Additionally, candidates must maintain professionalism in challenging situations, implement behavior modification techniques, and communicate effectively with clients, families, and agency staff. Physical capabilities include the ability to stand, sit, kneel, and engage in play for extended periods, as well as the capacity to lift and move up to 40 pounds without assistance. Reliable transportation and current liability insurance for the vehicle are also required.
