Role Overview
The Mechanical Project Engineer will report directly to the Director of Engineering and will be assigned responsibilities on a project basis. This role is pivotal in merging business, operational, and engineering functions to ensure that strategic projects and quality objectives are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Project Management activities for Capital and Major Expense projects as designated;
- Engage with mill operations to prioritize projects, ensuring that engineering tasks align with daily production while minimizing disruptions;
- Deliver practical engineering and design insights, completing necessary calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports as required within the approved timelines and budget;
- Facilitate communication among project team members and operational support to reduce conflicts and delays;
- Monitor project activity and cost status, analyzing outcomes against schedules and budgets, and recommending corrective actions as necessary;
- Ensure engineering outputs comply with statutory codes, company standards, and safety regulations;
- Maintain professional development and stay informed on industry advancements through collaboration with technical personnel and industry peers.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, ideally in Mechanical Engineering, along with relevant experience in a heavy industry setting, whether through full-time roles or internships. Candidates should demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and analytical skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience managing Capital and Major Expense projects related to Paper Machines and Converting Equipment;
- Proficiency in software tools such as SAP, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, MS Project, and AutoCAD;
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment;
- Strong interpersonal skills, with effective oral and written communication capabilities, particularly in conveying complex technical issues.
