Auburn University's Vice President for Research and Economic Development is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Security Operations Manager. This position is pivotal in overseeing the university's classified research initiatives and spearheading protective measures against adverse foreign influences targeting our research endeavors. The Security Operations Manager will report directly to the Chief Research Security Officer and will fulfill multiple roles including Facility Security Officer (FSO), Contract Special Security Officer (CSSO), University Key Management Personnel (KMP), and member of the Insider Threat Working Group.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the classified security program to ensure adherence to federal security standards and contractual obligations regarding classified information protection.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) by advising university leadership, faculty, staff, and students on classified operations and foreign influence matters.
  • Provide education and guidance to senior administrators, faculty, staff, and students on their responsibilities for safeguarding classified information through presentations and assessments.
  • Interpret and apply extensive government security regulations to support the university's government-funded research initiatives.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure compliance and success of the research program through audits, training, and accountability measures.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to evaluate proposals and contracts for classified information requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments on international agreements and foreign national personnel to identify potential malign foreign influence risks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Engineering, Legal Studies, International Relations, or a related field with 8 years of relevant experience in intelligence, counterintelligence, or information security, including 8 years in management and compliance.
OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Engineering, Legal Studies, International Relations, or a related field with 10 years of relevant experience in intelligence, counterintelligence, or information security, including 8 years in management and compliance.
OR
  • High School diploma with 12 years of relevant experience in intelligence, counterintelligence, or information security, including 8 years in management and compliance, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess a current U.S. government Top Secret security clearance or a Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance upon hire.
  • Completion of the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency's Facility Security Officers Course upon hire.

  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and implement effective solutions.
  • High ethical standards and sound judgment in handling sensitive discussions.
  • Experience mentoring and leading security compliance personnel.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Proficiency in conducting comprehensive risk assessments and identifying security vulnerabilities.

Salary Range: $104,500 - $174,200
