Overview

UIC is seeking a skilled Telecommunications Mechanic to support our operations. This role involves working with advanced communication systems to ensure optimal functionality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Installation, removal, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of voice and non-voice communication systems, including intercoms, public address systems, alarm systems, teletype equipment, and electronic telephone systems.
  • Running cables and wiring for telephone sets and related equipment, ensuring proper connections and functionality.

Qualifications

  • Preferred experience with Avaya Aura CM-7 and G-450 servers, including installation and repair of analog and digital telephone systems, fax machines, coaxial, fiber optic, and copper cabling.
  • 0-2 years of experience in installing, operating, or maintaining PBX/PABX systems, with recent experience within the last seven years.
  • Certification in Avaya Communication Managers 6.X or higher, or a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in PBX/PABX systems.
  • Experience in installing and maintaining customer premise telephone equipment and related systems.
  • Proficiency in installing and testing structured Category 5 (Cat 5) or higher telecommunications cabling.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to twist, bend, and squat as necessary.

Security Clearance

A security clearance at the Confidential level is required. US Citizenship is mandatory for this clearance.
