Building Automation Specialist Team Lead

This role is pivotal in supporting the operational efficiency of the department.

The individual in this capacity will be tasked with additional responsibilities and duties as required throughout the organization.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position is instrumental in cultivating specialists for a specific segment of the business, which includes key accounts and prospective clients.

This role involves managing and mentoring system specialists who report directly to this individual, specifically for the Fort Meade and Baltimore teams.


Key Responsibilities:

To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, an individual must be capable of performing the following tasks with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Guide and develop system specialists to enhance their communication skills, documentation practices, professionalism, and overall technical proficiency.
  • Provide timely and specific performance evaluations for all direct reports, including but not limited to SMART objectives, reviews, feedback, training, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Evaluate all direct reports against a standard of excellence and pinpoint specific areas for improvement.
  • Encourage technical engagement, training, and development for assigned direct reports.
  • Oversee the field team to ensure adherence to schedules and that construction projects progress as directed by project and operations management.
  • Participate with the sales team in project estimations prior to sales bookings.
  • Ensure that appropriate resources are identified and engaged.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Automated Logic and building automation systems as they pertain to Albireo Energy and the industry.
  • Assist the operations team in recognizing opportunities for improvement.
  • Foster a performance-driven culture, both at the team and individual levels, to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with management's vision, mission, and objectives.
  • Develop project-specific labor plans in collaboration with project managers.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations across various federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Guarantee that all quality and safety standards, specifications, and policies are upheld, drive continuous improvements, and collaborate with the team to enhance efficiency.
  • Promote a culture of open and honest dialogue, valuing the input and engagement of all team members in enhancing performance.
  • Instill a culture of high performance and accountability regarding employee and site safety, as well as other business aspects.
  • Troubleshoot and perform necessary repairs on building automation system field cabinets, including communication devices, printed circuit boards, power supplies, electrical/electronic controls, sensors, and transducers.
  • Conduct point-to-point checkout in accordance with departmental standards, utilizing tools such as multimeters to verify sensor continuity and resistance, and ensuring proper functionality of end devices.
  • Take initiative and responsibility for the checkout of end devices, controller configuration, and troubleshooting network-related issues.
  • Oversee the startup of both simple and complex automation systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Implement complex program modifications to meet specifications and sequences.
  • Perform essential database tasks, including backups, troubleshooting, and file exports.
  • Maintain company tools, testing equipment, and materials.
  • Generate comprehensive daily reports.
  • Collaborate with commissioning agents to demonstrate system functionality.
  • Engage in solutions-oriented discussions with owners and project stakeholders, both within and outside the organization.
Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in a technical field is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of education and experience (minimum requirement: High School Diploma or GED) will also be considered.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years in the electrical or mechanical construction industry is required.

Preferred: 4-6 years of supervisory experience in HVAC Controls/Building Automation.

Required: Previous experience as a controls technician with a high level of competency and understanding of Building Automation Systems.

Preferred: High level of competency and understanding of Automated Logic, along with prior experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring others.

Technical Knowledge: Full application of standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques in the area of specialty.

Planning: Ability to prioritize, plan, and coordinate work activities effectively.

Client Relations: Skill in establishing and maintaining rapport with clients and potential clients, fostering long-term relationships for account retention.

Communication and Influence: Requires strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information to diverse audiences.

Performance & Quality Monitoring: Ability to monitor performance to ensure plans, schedules, and budgets are met while maintaining high-quality service.

Leadership: Ability to communicate a vision and gain commitment from employees, motivating them towards common objectives.

Analytical Thinking: Ability to gather and analyze information systematically, drawing appropriate conclusions and generating viable solutions.

Drive & Dependability: Demonstrates eagerness, enthusiasm, and a commitment to ethical standards and compliance with laws and company policies.

Work Environment: Commitment to maintaining an open-door policy and engaging with all field employees.

Compensation: Pay Rate ranges from $48/hr to $65/hr, depending on experience.
