POSITION SUMMARY

The Patient Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assessing self-pay patients at the hospital bedside for eligibility in various governmental and non-governmental assistance programs. This position is responsible for identifying all potential sources of payment, including auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, and third-party liability, to ensure proper routing within the Patient Accounting framework. Additionally, the role involves assisting patients in completing the Confidential Financial Statement form and guiding them through the application process for any applicable benefits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting interviews with patients and their families to gather necessary information.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of all activities performed on accounts during the hospital stay and throughout the Patient Accounting cycle.
  • Executing financial clearance tasks, including collections, and canceling accounts lacking patient cooperation or eligibility for programs, while preparing accounts for Financial Assistance review.
  • Following up on assigned accounts to ensure timely processing of government applications, fostering strong communication with patients to expedite eligibility determinations.
  • Performing field visits to patient residences for skip tracing and document assistance.
  • Communicating case screening outcomes to hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff through both verbal and written channels.
QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following skills and qualifications:
  • Familiarity with the regulations governing Federal, State, and County assistance programs.
  • Proficiency in personal computer systems, including Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a solid grasp of the English language.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple facilities and stakeholders effectively.
  • Capability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) are preferred.
Conifer Health Solutions requires candidates to comply with all applicable vaccination and screening requirements prior to employment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum qualifications include:
  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Social Services, Hospital Admissions, or a related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands for this position include:
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Capability to navigate a hospital environment, including visiting patients at their bedside.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role involves working in both hospital and office settings, with direct interaction with patients and staff.
