Patient Support Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY
The Patient Support Coordinator plays a crucial role in assessing self-pay patients at the hospital for eligibility in various financial assistance programs. This position is responsible for identifying potential sources of payment, including auto insurance, Workers' Compensation, and various private insurance options, ensuring proper routing within the Patient Accounting framework. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist patients in completing the Confidential Financial Statement form and guide them through the application process for any applicable benefits.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting interviews with patients and their families to gather necessary information.
- Maintaining thorough documentation of all activities related to patient accounts throughout their hospital stay and the Patient Accounting cycle.
- Performing financial clearance functions, including collections, and managing accounts that lack patient cooperation or eligibility for programs.
- Following up on assigned accounts to ensure timely processing of government applications, fostering strong communication with patients to expedite eligibility determinations.
- Conducting home visits for skip tracing or assisting patients with required documentation.
- Communicating case screening results to hospital case management, social services, and admissions staff through both verbal and written methods.
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Familiarity with Federal, State, and County program regulations.
- Proficiency in personal computer systems, including Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with a solid grasp of the English language.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to navigate multiple facilities and hospital platforms.
- Capacity to prioritize and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Bi-lingual skills (Spanish) are preferred.
Required qualifications include:
- A High School diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in Social Services, Hospital Admitting, or a related field.
The physical demands of this position include:
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Capability to navigate a hospital environment, including patient bedside visits.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
This role involves working in both hospital and office settings, with direct interaction with patients and healthcare staff.
