Position Summary

SPUR is in search of a strategic and proactive Head of Institutional Funding to elevate our corporate and foundation fundraising initiatives in support of SPUR's mission. This leadership role within SPUR's development team is tasked with generating approximately $3M in revenue from corporate entities and foundations through memberships, event sponsorships, and special grants. The director will be responsible for shaping strategies, nurturing long-term partnerships, designing and managing business membership campaigns, overseeing cultivation and stewardship events, and enhancing essential fundraising systems for SPUR's business membership programs. The focus of the Director of Institutional Funding will be on Board Member companies and major corporate donor accounts.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising and Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain robust relationships with a portfolio of business members and prospects.
  • Collaborate with SPUR's Board and City Advisory Boards to involve them in corporate fundraising efforts.
  • Steward, renew, and upgrade existing business memberships.
  • Attract new business members.
  • Secure corporate sponsorships for key events, including annual gatherings and public programs.
  • Identify potential special grants from corporations that align with SPUR's objectives.
  • Expand, manage, and engage donors through Corporate Affinity Groups, such as the SPUR Urban Infrastructure Council.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of SPUR's policy and advocacy initiatives.

Strategic Development

  • In collaboration with the Chief Development Officer (CDO), formulate a long-term strategy for expanding SPUR's corporate donor base.
  • Work with the CDO to set annual revenue targets for business memberships and sponsorships.
  • Partner with the Engagement team to generate content for business-related events.
  • Coordinate with the Engagement team and Affinity Group leaders to plan programming.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and enhancement of SPUR's fundraising practices to improve effectiveness.

Leadership and Oversight

  • Supervise the Corporate Relations Manager to ensure alignment with SPUR's business development strategy.
  • Collaborate with SPUR's Board, City Advisory Board, Senior Leadership, and Policy Staff to cultivate and manage corporate and foundation donor relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with other development staff to synchronize strategies and processes.
  • Oversee the corporate donor stewardship management process, ensuring all pledges are accurately recorded in the CRM system.
  • Enhance and optimize the constituent record management system to improve fundraising efficiency.
  • Coordinate with the finance associate to ensure timely invoicing and pledge fulfillment.
  • Participate in SPUR events and meetings outside of standard business hours.

Administrative Duties

  • Oversee the corporate donor stewardship management process, ensuring effective tracking of donor commitments.
  • Refine the use of Salesforce to boost corporate fundraising capabilities.
  • Ensure the accuracy of corporate accounting dashboards through Salesforce and other tracking mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with communications and marketing teams to create promotional materials for signature events.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and managing a diverse portfolio of corporate and foundation donors.
  • Ability to generate public support and enthusiasm for SPUR's mission.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing fundraising strategies and meeting revenue objectives.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, evaluation, goal setting, and budget management.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Experience in coaching and inspiring high-performance teams.
  • Proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM systems, with a strategic approach to utilizing donor databases.
  • Exceptional organizational, planning, and prioritization skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong collaborative skills, able to work effectively across departments.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrates resilience and adaptability.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $125,000-$143,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. SPUR offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, basic life insurance, pre-tax commuter benefits, work-from-home stipends, an employee assistance program (EAP), six months of paid parental leave, and a retirement plan with a 25% contribution match.

Work Environment
