About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Archaeological Specialist to join our team at Stantec. As an Archaeological Specialist, you will play a critical role in leading our cultural resources fieldwork and ensuring the highest level of quality and safety in our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Manage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of work, and deliver quality reports on schedule and within budget.
  • Client and Regulator Interaction: Interact and interface with clients and environmental regulators to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSSE): Participate in HSSE Policies, Procedures, Standards, and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
  • Team Leadership: Provide supervision, training, technical direction, and mentoring to more junior staff.
  • Quality Control: Review work of junior staff to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Qualifications and Capabilities
  • Archaeological Expertise: Execution of successful Phase I archaeological surveys, Phase II testing, and data recovery.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct or request records searches at CHRIS Information Centers, federal, state, and tribal agencies as needed.
  • Site Evaluation: Provide well-reasoned recommendations as to site eligibility and integrity.
  • Construction Monitoring: Conduct construction monitoring to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Report Preparation: Contribute to the preparation of archaeological reports.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Stantec in interactions with clients, agency personnel, and Native American tribal members.
  • Data Management: Coordinate with GIS staff, PIs, or project managers to collect and manage field data and forms.
  • Permitting and Compliance: Assist with permitting applications (Organic Act, ARPA, USFS, BoR, BLM FWAs, state, tribal).
  • HSSE Compliance: Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards, and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology or a related field. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of related experience. Experience in California preferred.
  • Travel and Fieldwork: Ability to travel and conduct fieldwork for extended periods of time (up to 1 week at a time).
  • Physical Demands: Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Fieldwork may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
