Water Treatment Facility Technician

Key Responsibilities:
  • With minimal oversight, engages in supervisory and specialized technical tasks related to the upkeep and repair of water treatment machinery and associated facilities for the County Water Department.
  • Responsibilities include the repair, refurbishment, disassembly, reassembly, installation, testing, and operation of various machines, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components to ensure a safe and drinkable water supply for the County.
  • Tasks also encompass the maintenance and lubrication of pumps and motors at the water treatment facility, upkeep of electrical equipment, calibration and adjustment of meters, as well as adherence to service schedules for facilities and equipment. This role may also involve machining and welding activities.
  • The technician is tasked with documenting repairs and inspections of equipment, aiding in the management of parts inventories, and responding to urgent repair requests.
  • Employees are expected to demonstrate a degree of independent judgment in the execution of assigned duties.
  • Reports directly to the Water Treatment Superintendent.

Qualifications:
  • A High School diploma along with three years of experience in electrical or mechanical maintenance; or a comparable combination of training and experience that equips the individual with the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • A valid driver's license from North Carolina is mandatory upon hiring and throughout employment. Out-of-state licenses will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening, a Motor Vehicle Records check, and compliance with random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing is required. A criminal background investigation must be conducted by the County of Robeson for prospective candidates.
