Mobile Electrical Switchgear Technician

Position Overview
The role of a Field Service Technician involves providing essential support in the commissioning, integration, emergency repairs, and troubleshooting of electrical switchgear systems. This includes, but is not limited to, Power Distribution Units (PDU), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Power Distribution Centers (PDC), circuit breakers, protective relays, programmable logic controllers (PLC), meters, and various automated devices. The technician will also engage in mechanical repairs and modifications under the guidance of senior personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the commissioning and integration of electrical switchgear.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and sales teams.
- Assess and evaluate the operational status of electrical equipment.
- Communicate effectively with customers at all levels.
- Manage personal work schedules efficiently.
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on switchgear systems.
- Respond promptly to emergency service requests from clients.
- Deliver timely and accurate communication to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations.
- Provide precise reporting on time management and expenses.
Work Environment
- This position requires travel, with assignments typically lasting between three to five weeks.
- Work hours generally range from 10 to 12 hours per day, five to six days a week, across various shifts.
- Expect up to 80% travel as this is a hands-on field role.
- Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, including availability on weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of practical experience in electronics or field services is preferred.
- Training in electrical theory and technologies is essential.
- Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and principles is required.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints related to power control and automation.
- Knowledge of power distribution, AC/DC, voltage circuit theory, and troubleshooting techniques is advantageous.
- Experience with various types of switchgear testing is beneficial.
- Proficiency in programming PLCs and HMIs is a plus.
- Mechanical skills are essential.
- A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel, are required.
- Must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds regularly.
- A valid driver's license is necessary.
- A customer-first mindset is essential for success in this role.
