Field Service Technician Overview

The Field Service Technician plays a crucial role in the commissioning, integration, emergency support, and troubleshooting of electrical switchgear systems. This includes working with Power Distribution Units (PDU), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Power Distribution Centers (PDC), circuit breakers, protective relays, programmable logic controllers (PLC), meters, and various automated devices. Additionally, the technician will perform mechanical repairs and modifications under the guidance of senior staff. Establishing and nurturing strong relationships with customers, colleagues, sales teams, and other stakeholders is essential for success in this role.

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant electronic or field service experience.
  • Solid understanding of electrical theory and technologies, with practical experience in related tasks.
  • Proficient in using electrical and electronic testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints related to power control and automation.
  • Knowledge of power distribution, AC/DC principles, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Experience with low to medium voltage electrical power systems and switchgear testing is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with PLC and HMI programming is a plus.
  • Mechanical skills are beneficial.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Competence in standard computer applications, including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Physical capability to lift at least 50 pounds regularly.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Commitment to a customer-centric approach.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist in the start-up commissioning, integration, and troubleshooting of switchgear systems.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, coworkers, and sales representatives.
  • Assess the operational conditions of equipment.
  • Engage effectively with customers at all levels.
  • Manage personal work schedules efficiently.
  • Conduct general and preventive maintenance on switchgear.
  • Respond promptly to emergency service requests from customers.
  • Provide timely and accurate communication to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Accurately report time and expenses as required.

Work Environment

  • This position requires travel, with assignments typically lasting between 3 to 5 weeks.
  • Work schedules generally consist of 10-12 hour shifts, 5-6 days a week, including day or night shifts.
  • Expect a hands-on role with up to 80% travel involved.
  • Flexible scheduling may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
