Job Overview

The American Gem Society (AGS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to fill the role of Membership Engagement Specialist within our Membership Department. This position is vital in nurturing relationships with our members, ensuring their contentment, and cultivating a vibrant community within the prestigious gem and jewelry sector.

Work Arrangement: Local candidates may have the option for a hybrid work schedule, while non-local candidates can work fully remotely.

The AGS is a nonprofit trade association that supports a committed community of fine jewelry retailers, designers, wholesalers/manufacturers, and service providers focused on enhancing consumer trust in the jewelry market. The full-time, exempt Membership Engagement Specialist role encompasses member recruitment, retention, engagement, prospect identification, and relationship management to boost membership, advertising, event, and program sales. The ideal candidate should be a team player, detail-oriented, and eager to apply innovative thinking to their responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Member Recruitment:

  • Oversee the member recruitment process, from identifying prospects to securing active memberships.
  • Design and execute strategies for membership, advertising, events, and programs to achieve revenue targets.
  • Act as the primary liaison for members, maintaining a pipeline of prospects and managing recruitment cycles from lead generation to closure.

Member Engagement and Support:

  • Deliver exceptional support, guidance, and assistance to both new and existing AGS members.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for members, keeping them informed about AGS updates, events, and opportunities through various communication channels.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance member engagement and retention.

Operational Excellence:

  • Accurately process membership applications and renewals.
  • Identify members at risk of disengagement and create personalized strategies to improve satisfaction and renewals.
  • Collect and analyze member data for ongoing improvement.

Brand Representation:

  • Act as a brand ambassador, representing AGS at industry conferences, trade shows, and events.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and advancements to provide valuable insights to AGS members.

Reporting and Collaboration:

  • Make decisions on basic projects and research policies/solutions.
  • Assist the Community Ambassador Manager and Director of Membership in preparing monthly and/or quarterly reports.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Recent experience in membership management, customer service, and/or sales is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with membership database programs is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Knowledge of the gem and jewelry industry is desirable but not mandatory.
  • A genuine passion for providing outstanding service and fostering a sense of community.

Our regular work schedule is 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Some additional hours and weekend travel may be required with this position.
