JOB SUMMARY:

The Safety Engineer plays a crucial role in the execution of safety policies, programs, and procedures to foster a secure working environment for all personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the application of BELL's Safety Manual and oversees compliance with relevant policies, procedures, standards, regulations, and laws.
  • Collaborates with project teams to create, implement, and revise site-specific safety plans.
  • Facilitates and promotes management practices and communication strategies aimed at cultivating a safety-centric culture.
  • Conducts site safety inspections and takes necessary actions to halt unsafe practices. Documents hazards identified during inspections using safety management software, ensuring timely communication and resolution of all issues.
  • Develops and maintains emergency planning documentation.
  • Leads the coordination of the site safety committee.
  • Designs, delivers, and monitors jobsite safety orientations for all individuals accessing the project site.
  • Coordinates and supervises safety inspection activities of project teams and trade partners.
  • Recognizes and promotes safe behaviors and conditions through effective communication and feedback.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor by sharing safety tips and best practices with project teams and trade partners.
  • Conducts site visits to observe, learn, and collaborate with project teams to enhance the safety culture.
  • Ensures the execution of trade-specific safety plans and Safe Start meetings to confirm compliance with all safety aspects by team members and trade partners.
  • Records and tracks all health and safety incidents, assisting with or conducting investigations to determine causal factors and necessary preventive measures.
  • Supports onsite injury management, including required documentation and case management.
  • Maintains a safe working atmosphere by fostering relationships with clients, subcontractors, colleagues, and management.
  • Advises Project Managers and Superintendents regarding job site hazards, employee training, safe equipment operation, and safe material usage.
  • Reviews, monitors, and provides feedback on work plans and activities of each trade partner concerning safety-related issues.
  • Accompanies clients, partners, and regulatory agency personnel during jobsite inspections and visits.
  • Assists project teams in planning for special events (e.g., Safety Week, Topping Out, etc.).
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum requirement – Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum requirement – One (1) year of safety experience in commercial construction or a related field.
  • Preferred industry training/certification – CSP, ASP, GSP, CHST, or CIH.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
  • Previous experience with Viewpoint & Bluebeam preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Strong teamwork orientation and leadership capabilities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidentiality.
