Position Overview

Individuals in this role are responsible for the development and support of advanced building automation systems. They typically oversee the work of entry-level technicians and operate under the guidance of senior engineering staff or designated supervisors.

Key Responsibilities

- Collaborate with electronics engineers to design and implement various building automation hardware and software solutions;

- Provide insights and suggestions to engineers regarding modifications to building automation hardware and system functionalities;

- Facilitate coordination between university staff and contractors for enhancements and adjustments to existing building automation systems;

- Manage service contracts related to computer systems and associated peripherals;

- Assist in the development of computer, communication, and security programs while also preparing project cost assessments;

- Monitor the progress and financial aspects of building automation projects;

- Supervise the activities of Building Automation Technician I personnel;

- Diagnose, repair, or oversee the repair of building automation system communication equipment, including circuit boards, modems, and data circuits;

- Create and revise technical drawings and diagrams following installations;

- Develop and troubleshoot software programs for the building automation system, such as energy usage reports and utility distribution analyses;

- Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A combination of two (2) years (24 months) of education and experience in areas such as building automation systems, electrical engineering, HVAC technology, or a closely related field. This can include: 30 semester hours equating to one (1) year (12 months), an Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equating to eighteen months (18 months), 90 semester hours equating to two (2) years (24 months), or a Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equating to three (3) years (36 months);
  • A minimum of two (2) years (24 months) of practical experience in performing standard technical duties related to building automation.
