Role Purpose:

The Engineering Accounting Analyst is responsible for overseeing financial management and accounting related to capital expenditures. This role involves reviewing, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with procedures regarding project costs and asset components throughout the capital investment program lifecycle. The analyst will support all project-related accounting activities and conduct financial analyses of projects. Acting as a liaison between Engineering and utility-wide accounting groups, this position will identify expenditure trends, suggest process improvements, and represent accounting system enhancements. Additionally, the analyst will generate reports on financial performance metrics regularly and as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist regional Project Managers and the Director of Engineering with CapEx activities, ensuring adherence to financial governance and accounting policies. Key tasks include:
    • Prepare and modify project metadata, timelines, and budget plans within the financial management platform.
    • Administer, analyze, and correct project cost and asset data, collaborating with stakeholders to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
    • Reconcile inventory through Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
    • Review and reconcile sales and use tax charges as necessary.
    • Monitor and analyze project expenditures monthly, utilizing ERP systems for detailed financial analysis.
    • Identify projects requiring authorization overruns and evaluate root causes.
    • Provide monthly financial analysis reports to Engineering staff.
    • Prepare expenditure reports for regulatory submissions, extracting data from various systems.
    • Conduct cost queries to assist the Director of Engineering with additional financial analyses.
  • Collaborate with Corporate stakeholders to identify and develop cost or process improvements related to accounting practices. Responsibilities include:
    • Present monthly financial analyses to the accounting team to inform strategic business decisions.
    • Utilize data to identify and propose process enhancements within financial systems.
    • Contribute to the development of processes supporting capex activities related to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) initiatives.
    • Assist in reviewing and modifying documentation to implement improvements.
    • Act as a regional expert for accounting and ERP systems, participating in system upgrades and user training.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial, cost accounting, project control, or cost engineering.
  • Familiarity with Oracle-based financial/accounting software is advantageous.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in various budgeting, accounting, or analytical software.
  • Knowledge of GAAP/IFRS accounting principles is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong numerical analysis and research skills.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with diverse stakeholders.
Certifications:
  • Eligibility for Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred.
